Midrash 

Description

This shiur was given at the annual Yemei Iyyun beTanakh at Michlelet Herzog, in memory of our colleague Rabbanit Dr. Avigail Rock z"l. In this shiur, we explore five different categories of Midrashim and examine how they are directly related to Tanakh texts without any overt references to them. We then raise a theory as to the role that Midrash and the Mmidrashic enterprise played in the lives of the composers of the Midrashim. We also raise the need to find a mandate for their method and look at the various ways in which their work continued to impact on homiletic literature throughout the generations.
