Description

The spiritual state of the Jewish people at the time of the onslaught of the Yevanim was staleness and oldness. The decrees of the Yevanim were against Mila, Shabbos and Rosh Chodesh were against the Jewish value and spirit of renewal and sanctifying beginnings. The rebellion and revolution of the Chashmonaim was from tapping into renewal and freshness. They renewed and restored the beis hamikdash with this energy. Yosef embodied this spirit. This is the essential challenge of educating our children, giving them excitement and vitality in mitzvos. This is the celebration of Chanuka.
