Both the Rav and Rav Lichtenstein had halalchik intuition as to when a question on a sugya needed to be worked out immediately (at the core of a sugya) vs when it was an issue that could wait. Seeing Rav Lichtenstein in the presence of Rav Soloveitchik was instructional in how to be a talmid.
