Description

Moshe was told that his demise would follow immediately after Midyan's destruction in war. He is therefore credited (Midrash quoted by Rashi) for not forestalling war with Midyan. Wouldn't Moshe, under any circumstance, surely fulfill Hashem's wish without delay?
